Workshop on Product Development and Forecasting
(With an insight on Trends for Autumn/Winter 2009/2010)

Third Eyesight, a specialist management consulting firm, chose product development as a focus for its most recent workshop in the Third Eyesight Knowledge Series©.

The workshop was titled “Product Development and Forecasting (with an insight on Trends for Autumn/Winter 2009/2010)”, and was held at the ITC Sheraton, Delhi.

The workshop was led by a senior member of the Third Eyesight team, Ms. Sharmila Katre, who has worked with the Clothing and Textile industry for 30 years in product development, merchandising, as well as in education at premier institutions such as the National Institute of Fashion Technology and the Pearl Academy of Fashion, among others.

The workshop addressed the need for better product development process for lifestyle products so as to achieve reduced lead time, reduced cost and better profitability. The workshop imparted knowledge on developing Range Plans, Range Architecture and Merchandise Plan based on international retailing seasons and current retailing trends worldwide.

The workshop also highlighted the forecast for Autumn-Winter 2009-10 drawn from international sources and forecast fairs including the Premiere Vision Paris, Promostyl, Print Source, Pantone and Stahl. Forecasting is an important aspect of the product development process. The idea behind the workshop was to experientially integrate the two.

The workshop was highly interactive; participants were given and made to demonstrate how the forecasts could be applied to their product lines and target their consumers globally.

The workshop had highly researched and current content of the trend directions for the lifestyle Industry for the Fall/Winter 2009/2010 season and included indications on colour, textures, surface design and textiles.
